Optimizing electrical drive trains today often is performed in a mechanical environment by using real e-motors. This technique does not allow for the full potential to be exploited, as the mechanical setup and the e-motor itself are limiting factors. The mechanical set up is flawed given unwanted influences like the dynamometer control or alignment tolerances and on the other hand side adjusting operational points takes quite a long time. Using a precise e-motor emulator instead of a real e-motor allows new powerful optimization methods which would be not possible in a mechanical environment. In addition to this, standard test procedures can be operated much faster. As an example, measuring the efficiency of an inverter which usually takes days can now be reduced to minutes.
